WSCC partners with Conservation Colorado for Mike’s Hike #5 at Elk Park Trail

By WSCC 6 years ago

On Sunday July 8th, join WSCC and our friends at Conservation Colorado for the 5th Mike’s Hike of the summer. We will be heading Steven’s Gulch to Elk Park Trail. The trail starts at Overland Reservoir and runs through prime elk winter habitat – lush meadows – until it starts ascending into conifer forest. See more about the hike (and a schedule of all the summer’s hikes) HERE.

Mike’s Hikes are relaxed, informative, and fun. The group decides the pace and distance, and we often stop to observe notable geologic features, wildlife, and fauna.

The Elk Park Trail falls within the area proposed to be changed to Designated Wilderness Area -Elk Park Recommended Wilderness- in the GMUG Revision Plan.   SEE MORE HERE.

On the drive up to Overland Reservoir, we will be passing a parcel of land included in the BLM December Lease Sale. MORE INFORMATION ON THE DECEMBER LEASE SALE & ACTION ITEMS HERE.

Following the hike, we will head over to Delicious Orchards for a social hour. We will discuss how we can play a part in the GMUG Forest Revision Plan as well as the recently announced BLM December Lease Sale.

Hikers will meet at the Conservation Center office (204 Poplar Avenue) in downtown Paonia at 8:00am. From the office, we will carpool to the trailhead and back before heading to Delicious Orchards.
