April 14, 2014 – Celebrate Earth Day by visiting the rainforest of the sea. On April 22 at 6pm, marine biologist Dr. Bob Halley will give a special presentation about coral reefs at the Paonia Library. Community members of all ages are invited to dive into this colorful world.

Home to 25 percent of all marine species, coral reefs are some of the most biologically diverse and economically valuable ecosystems on the planet – and also some of the most threatened. Rising sea temperatures and acidification, among other factors, pose substantial dangers to the long-term health of these beautiful ocean structures.

Bob Halley spent over three decades studying coral reefs and marine geology for the United States Geological Survey. Halley now lives in Cedaredge, where he runs I-Guana Farm.
