The 2015 Conservation Days Field Trip was the largest the Conservation Center has hosted. During the field trip, students explored wildlife, watersheds, renewable energy, local history, and conservation through dynamic and interactive activities.

“Garnet Mesa fourth graders had the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom walls.  The hands on learning with experts in the field provided the students with exciting experiences they will never forget” said Megan Randall, 4th Grade Teacher at Garnet Mesa Elementary in Delta.

The event featured ten education stations taught by local natural resource experts from local, state, and national organizations including Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Delta Conservation District, US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Black Canyon Audubon Society, Solar Energy International, Blue Sage Center for the Arts, and the North Fork Historical Society.

The Cocker Kids Foundation and Alpine Bank were the Title Sponsors of Conservation Days. Additional event sponsors included Ace Gambles Hardware, Delta County Memorial Hospital, DMEA, First Colorado National Bank, Redwood Arms Motel, and Sherrion Taylor.

These donations underwrite the cost of Conservation Days, which is free to students and the Delta County School District. In addition, more than 60 community volunteers were involved with this year’s event.

“We are proud to be a part of a growing Delta County tradition” said Sarah Sauter, Executive Director of the Western Slope Conservation Center.
