Learn more about the BLM’s RMP at our special events in January and February

The Uncompahgre BLM Office has announced the start of the next step in our decade-long effort to fight for appropriate management of public lands in the North Fork Valley and beyond. The Resource Management Plan’s (RMP) scoping period runs now thru 2/20/24. Make your voice heard and join WSCC for one ore more of the events below as we engage and educate our community to secure the strongest protections throughout the entire RMP Amendment process. Your input matters! Each WSCC-hosted event below will provide an opportunity to learn more and to sign our petition. 

 

Jan. 21: Mike’s Hike – Elephant Hill

WSCC is proposing this area just outside of Paonia be designated as a new Area of Critical Concern (ACEC) to protect this area’s unique characteristics. Find more on Mike’s Hikes here.

Jan. 30: “Public Lands 101”WSCC Winter Speaker Series with Julie Sapena, WSCC Board Chair – Paonia Public Library (6:30 – 7:30 pm).

Come learn about the history of our public lands, how they are managed and the issues we are working on here at WSCC and how you can get involved. 


Feb. 1: BLM Public Meeting – Ute Indian Musuem, Montrose (4:00 – 6:30 pm).

Public attendance at this BLM-hosted open house meeting is strongly encouraged. BLM staff will be on hand to discuss the RMP Amendment process and the work they are doing. Come to learn, and to let the BLM know what YOU want to see for the North Fork Valley in this RMP. Contact WSCC at [email protected] if you would like to carpool.

Feb. 8: Pints for Public Lands – Chrysalis Brewery, Paonia (6:00 – 8:00 pm).

Join WSCC for a pint or two to chat all things public lands, write a comment letter, and sign petitions. Bring your friends! (And be on the lookout for a *special announcement*).


Feb. 10: Mike’s Hike – Adobe Badlands

WSCC is nominating the lands north of our hike as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) in the BLM’s Resource Management Plan Amendment. Sign up here!

Feb. 12: “Coal Mine Methane Capture on the Western Slope” WSCC Winter Speaker Series with Chris Caskey, Delta Brick & Climate Company – Paonia Public Library (6:30 pm)

Feb. 23: Special Screening of “River of Sorrows” – Egyptian Theater in Delta, CO. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the film will start at 7:00 pm.

WSCC and the Colorado Wildlands Project are proud to offer a FREE screening of the River of Sorrows film, a Rig to Flip production. Join us to support our efforts to protect the Dolores River Canyon country as a National Monument!
