Conservation experts to review potential impacts on sensitive lands

April 14, 2014 – Public lands are on the move. On April 19, join local experts for an educational hike in the Adobe Badlands Wilderness Study Area, northwest of Delta. All ages and abilities are welcome for this free, low-intensity outing, which will begin at 9 am and last approximately two hours.

Sarah Sauter from the Western Slope Conservation Center will lead the group, speaking to the unique values of these 10,000+ acres of primeval lands. The Adobe Badlands are a maze of arroyos and ravines, with ancient marine fossils scattered among pinon-junipers and threatened hookless cactus. The fate for these foothills will be decided later this year during the BLM Uncompahgre Field Office’s Resource Management Plan.

Participants are encouraged to meet at the City Market parking lot in Delta at 9am. Carpools will be available. Please bring water and appropriate clothing. For more information about this event or the Adobe Badlands, please contact Sarah at (970) 527-5307 or [email protected].
