Ah, spring is in the air and with the warm temperatures comes the rush of melting snow to our rivers and streams. Ditches are turning on, and it’s likely time to hang up those skis and start dusting off those boats. Whether you are a farmer, boater, or general river observer, it’s always anyone’s guess as to how long the runoff season will last on the western slope. This year WSCC would like to invite you to try! For the next month we are hosting a “Guess the Peak!” contest for our local river, the North Fork of the Gunnison. The game is simple: Whoever comes the closest to guessing the peak flow for the North Fork this spring wins!
What will I win, you ask? Well, the winner will take home a newly designed, WSCC T-shirt! Not to mention the highly coveted honor of being the sole person to guess the spring peak flow on a very unpredictable river. This can give you A LOT of bragging rights, which can be used to win silly arguments for an entire year.
