June 24, 2014 – The Paradise Theatre in Paonia re-opened its doors three weeks ago after months of renovations and equipment upgrades and is now beginning to fill its calendar for the summer. One of the first major programs will be a summer documentary film series in partnership with the Western Slope Conservation Center, a 37-year old grassroots non-profit based in Paonia that works to protect and enhance lands, air, water, and wildlife in Delta County.
The series will begin with a screening of “Dam Nation,” an award-winning film about the history and controversy of dam removal projects in America, this Sunday June 29 and Monday June 30 at 7:30pm. The film was the headliner for Mountain Film Festival in Telluride this year. The next film will be “Citizen Koch” on Sunday July 27, followed by “A Fierce Green Fire” on Sunday August 24. A final film, to be announced, will be screened on Sunday September 21. (Descriptions of movies below or in attached flyer)
Tickets are $10 per film at the door and all proceeds go to benefit the Conservation Center and the Paradise Theatre.
“The Paradise Theatre is proud to be part of a community of non-profit organizations like the Conservation Center that are doing on-the-ground work to protect our lifestyle and landscape. It is our hope that these documentary films about national and global eco-politics will spark meaningful dialogue in our community and inspire people to take action on related concerns here at home”, said Amy DeLuca, Director of the Paradise Theatre.
The Paradise Theatre has partnered with the Conservation Center in the past to host the Wild & Scenic Film Festival and Mountain Film Festival On Tour (pre-set film series that go on tour every year), but this is the first time the groups have worked together to schedule their own series of films that they believe will engage and inspire theatre patrons.
