Volunteer Spotlight: Sarah Marshall

By Keshia Anderson 7 hours agoNo Comments

This month, WSCC is shining a spotlight on Sarah Marshall, a dedicated volunteer who has spent the past few years supporting our River Watch program and watershed stewardship efforts.

Sarah’s connection to River Watch began during her 12 years as a librarian and library aide at Hotchkiss High School, where she worked with the school’s River Watch program. After moving on from her work at the school, she wanted to stay involved with the program she had come to appreciate and began volunteering with WSCC’s River Watch team in 2023.

Since then, Sarah has continued to support watershed stewardship through River Watch and the WSCC Watershed Committee. She also contributed to the development of WSCC’s 10-year water quality report, helping update sections of the previous report as part of a broader effort to understand long-term water quality trends in the North Fork watershed.

Having lived in the North Fork Valley for 16 years, Sarah shares WSCC’s interest in protecting the region’s water, public lands, and natural resources. She appreciates the opportunity to support an organization whose work aligns with her own values. “It’s a great organization to work with. It’s fun, and we try to have fun with what we do,” she said.

Sarah is especially impressed by what WSCC accomplishes with the resources available to it. “I just think that WSCC manages to stretch the resources they have and get a lot done with what they have. It’s a really neat organization to work with.”

We’re grateful to Sarah for sharing her time and experience with WSCC and helping us better understand and protect the health of our local waterways. Volunteers like Sarah are the backbone of our work, making it possible to care for the lands, water, and wildlife that make the Western Slope such a special place.
