Conservation Center & Elsewhere Studios Seeking Local Artist for River Project

March 7, 2014 – The Western Slope Conservation Center and Elsewhere Studios are seeking a local Western Slope artist to create a public art installation on a chain-link fence at the Paonia River Park this summer.

The Conservation Center, who manages the Paonia River Park, was awarded grants from the North Fork Heart & Soul Project and Odell Brewing Company to install an artistic fence that will buffer the view of the neighboring gravel operation at the park. They are seeking a permanent or long-term installation using a durable medium and conveying a theme of environmental stewardship, river restoration, community, or North Fork Valley culture, economy, and history. The project must cover most of the 80-foot long fence, prioritize using local, recycled or reclaimed materials, and have an outreach and education component – informing and engaging local residents in the planning or construction.

The artist’s Residency Fee at Elsewhere and up to $2,000 in project materials will be funded by the Conservation Center. They will also be given a $500 living stipend for general living expenses.

This is a unique opportunity for a local artist to create a lasting landmark for their community, work next to the beautiful North Fork River, and retreat to the enchanting Elsewhere Studios for a month.

Applications are due on March 31, 2014 and can be submitted via email, mail, or in person at the Conservation Center. For more information and to apply, visit the Conservation Center’s website Paonia River Park Resident Local Artist Application, or call Joanna Calabrese, River Park Coordinator (970) 527-5307 x 204.
